Welly welly well, what to say? This is our first development update, a bit late in coming we'll admit, but better late than never. A lot has gone on in the last six or so days, including the creation of a company, name, logo, and game prototype. Let's start with a proper introduction before we delve in, shall we? We are a development team in charge of producing a mini-game that teaches about solar energy to students K-12. Our name is, take a deep breath here,...'Solar Warriors'. Pretty amazing, we know. Thanks. If you'd like to see our logo, check out the picture that goes with this post. As for who are the talented young professionals who are behind this awesome enterprise, wait no further. The Solar Warriors are:
Priest Anderson- Team Manager
Valerie Tran- Art Designer
Ariel Gonzales- Audio Man
Joey Vega- Design/Programmer
Jessica Franco- Lead Programmer
We've been quite busy at work the past week. Ideas have gone from only floating in the abyss, to being brought to salvation, naked, bloody and squalling, ready to burst free into the world... to being struck down once more to lay at rest in the other realm ...And from out of those mammoth's ashes rose the beast we've brought to the table before you today. We bring you...Solar Warriors, the game. I know, um, creative. Let's keep moving children, keep your hands in the vehicle at all times, no questioning of our superior elders. Solar Warriors is our first game, and it deals with the concept of solar energy (as stated previously). It is a timed maze puzzler with a top-down view. The player controls an avatar, aptly named a Solar Warrior. And this warrior is on a mission. A mission to get some toast. But alas, the toaster, it has no power! Something is wrong with the solar panels outside that are supposed to supply his precious electronics with energy! So the warrior must dive into the world of solar panels to find and fix what is wrong, and ultimately get some of that delicious, crunchy toast (butter optional).
It's been really neat to watch the concepts in our heads go from imagination to paper, paper to Adobe Illustrator, Illustrator to Photoshop, and from there to GameSalad. We've been working on a title screen that should hopefully implement saved games, along with a high score and credits feature. The first level has been prototyped out, complete with a semi-animated avatar. We're collecting audio and sorting through them, assembling them, etc. We're primarily waiting on backgrounds and other art (like the actual maze designs) to start trickling in before we move forward, although perhaps our design document might be a bit more important. Er, yeah, we haven't quite done that yet...But! We are working on it, rest assured. That's about all we can think of now that has been done... At least, what can be seen by mortal eyes.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's update! Thanks!
